Thanks for checking out this pre-release demo version of Ares! As pre-release software, this demo has not been extensively tested, and therefore may behave strangely or even crash on particular computer systems. Elements of the game are subject to change.
DO NOT UPLOAD THIS SNEAK PEEK SOFTWARE! This demo is not final, so please don't upload it to online services or the internet. It is meant EXCLUSIVELY for the Extreme Power CD.
REQUIREMENTS
Ares requires:
• System 7.1
• 68040 25MhZ or better (accelerated for Power Macintosh)
• 640x480 8-bit color display
• 2.6 megs of real, free RAM
Ares really likes:
• System 7.5.3 and all it’s trappings, including:
• Sound Manager version 3.1 or better (especially on Power Macs)
• QuickTime 2.1 or better
• Up to 1000 x 800 pixel displays
• up to 4.1 megs of real, free RAM
TIPS
• You can hold down the option key while clicking on the demo button, or while pressing the “D” key to select which level (1-3) you’d like to see.
• If the music seems jittery or stutters, it may be causing you some trouble. Hold down the shift key while launching the game to prevent the music driver from loading. This may also help you in low-memory situations.
• Ares will make as large a game window as possible, considering the available memory and available screen space. If, for some reason, you want to limit the window size, give Ares less memory.
WHAT IS ARES, ANYWAY?
It’s a game unlike any you’ve seen before -- part action, part tactics, and part eye-catching visual treat.
As the leader of the only humans to escape the crusades of the Cantharan Order, the player must battle his way back to Earth and liberate it from the Order and its allies. Eight alien races, twenty one levels, and dozens of types of ships and weapons comprise the intriguing universe of Ares.
Some of my favorite features are:
• Dynamic scaling--the whole playing are can zoom from a 200% view (giant sprites!) to a tactical view of the entire battlefield
• Player can control any number of ship types, and switch control from one ship to another during a level
• Player can build ships and land transports at planets and space stations
• Variety of mission objectives, from extensive strategic goals to escort duty--from missions of investigation to all-out destruction
